Operations Manager - Commodity Sourcing & Supply Chain

About the role

Career Directions Limited is looking for a hands-on, structured Operations Manager to lead its Nairobi operations. The role leads a team, solves problems, builds clear processes and simplifies complex operations while ensuring smooth daily execution. It also covers international suppliers and clients, and coordinates with shipping lines, transporters and 3PL partners worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise, lead and support the operations team daily, manage workload and coverage, and act as the main point of contact for operational issues
• Lead cross-functional coordination with trading, treasury and trade finance to design and implement efficient processes, and act as a bridge between teams and management
• Design and implement structured processes, continuously simplifying and improving workflows
• Oversee shipment execution end-to-end (containers, trucking, bulk and breakbulk) and coordinate with international suppliers, clients and service providers
• Ensure accurate system updates, documentation and payment follow-ups, and strong use of operational systems for reporting and process control
• Monitor stock movements, reconciliations and operational controls, and ensure compliance with local and international regulations
• Train, guide and develop the team, proactively identify issues and implement sustainable solutions

Required profile

• Degree in Logistics, International Relations, Commerce or Trade
• 3-5 years' experience in operations with proven leadership experience
• Background in commodities, packaging, metals and trading operations is a must
• Experience with international logistics and multi-country operations, and familiarity with shipping lines, 3PLs and transport coordination
• Experience in stock management and operational controls
• Knowledge of local and international regulations
• Structured, proactive, solution-oriented and highly organized with strong attention to detail

Required skills

• Excellent spoken and written communication
• Very strong system and IT capability and experience
• Ability to create clear processes and drive their implementation across teams
• Supply chain, logistics and multi-commodity experience helpful
• Familiarity with trade finance, banking and supply chain systems is an added advantage
