About the role
Mount Kenya University seeks a motivated Part-Time Trainer to deliver high‑quality marine engineering education. You will teach core subjects, supervise practical sessions, and support students preparing for certification and onboard duties.
Key responsibilities
- Teach courses on marine propulsion, thermodynamics, electrical systems, hydraulics, and shipboard maintenance.
- Conduct hands‑on training using engine‑room simulators and workshops.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with IMO STCW standards.
- Mentor students in academic and professional development and guide exam preparation.
- Evaluate student performance, provide feedback, and maintain accurate attendance and assessment records.
- Contribute to curriculum development and integrate modern technologies and industry practices.
- Collaborate with fellow trainers, academic staff, and industry partners.
- Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, and professional development activities.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Marine Engineering or a related field.
- Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Marine Engineer Officer (STCW III/2 or III/3).
- Minimum 2‑3 years of sea service; prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with IMO Model Courses and STCW requirements.
