PHP Software Developer (Pension Systems)

About the role

Octagon Africa Financial Services, a regional financial services company active in pensions management, insurance brokerage, training and actuarial services, is hiring a software developer. You will design, develop and maintain efficient, reusable and reliable software code, work with cross-functional teams on web applications and take part in decisions about architecture and implementation. This is a short-term contract of 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, secure and efficient code following industry best practices.
• Help design and implement new features and functionalities.
• Work with designers, front-end developers and product managers to build scalable web solutions.
• Review code and share knowledge with the team.
• Troubleshoot and debug existing applications to improve performance.
• Maintain documentation of code and systems.
• Propose improvements to development processes and projects.
• Keep up with modern PHP frameworks and emerging technologies.

Required profile

• 2-4 years of professional PHP development experience.
• Experience in the financial services or pension administration industry, including Navision and/or Fund Master pension systems.
• Solid understanding of procedural and object-oriented PHP and software design patterns.
• Experience with or updating a legacy application is an added advantage.

Required skills

• At least one modern PHP framework (Laravel, Symfony preferred).
• Front-end: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, Vue, React, AlpineJs.
• Relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL) and optimized queries; Git version control.
• RESTful API design and integration, secure coding and web security.
• Nice to have: cloud platforms (preferably GCP), Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Agile, Jira/Trello/Asana.
