Plant Manager

About the role

Unga Holdings Limited is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead its milling operations in Nairobi. The role oversees profitability, production efficiency, and compliance with food safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Own overall plant profitability, meeting targets for operating profit, production cost, and EBIT.
• Develop, manage and control annual OPEX and CAPEX budgets.
• Drive cost‑optimization initiatives across labour, raw materials, utilities, maintenance, logistics and overheads.
• Monitor production cost per metric ton and implement corrective actions.
• Lead financial performance reviews and close budget variances.
• Lead the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process to align production, procurement, inventory and demand.
• Collaborate with Procurement to optimise supplier performance and raw‑material availability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Food Science or a related field.
• Minimum eight years of experience in production management and plant operations, with at least four years in senior management.
• Strong knowledge of production planning and control, preferably with ERP experience.
• Understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements for feed‑milling operations.
• Experience applying Food Safety Management Systems, especially ISO 22000.
• Basic knowledge of milling principles and equipment.
• Proficiency in financial management and supply‑chain operations.
• Computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
