Principal Engineer – Platform Architecture (Remote, EMEA)

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architectural vision of our Merchant Experience platform. Working fully remote within the EMEA region, you will define future architecture, set technical direction, and influence the broader engineering strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Own and drive the technical direction for the Merchant Experience pillar.
• Make architecture and design decisions, reviewing documentation to ensure alignment with platform strategy.
• Participate in the Architecture Council to shape engineering-wide standards.
• Provide proofs‑of‑concept, design guidance, and problem‑solving support to development teams.
• Investigate and resolve architecture challenges such as performance, scalability, and integration.
• Mentor and train engineers on design techniques, coding standards, and DDD best practices.
• Collaborate with fellow architects to create cohesive guardrails and promote their adoption.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience, including senior roles such as Staff/Principal Engineer or Software Architect.
• Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of Domain‑Driven Design applied to microservices and complex domains.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and excellent communication skills in English.
• Solid understanding of software fundamentals: data structures, design patterns, distributed systems.
