Programme Development and Advocacy Advisor

About the role

Peace Brigades International Kenya is seeking a Programme Development and Advocacy Advisor to strengthen its protection work with human rights defenders and grassroots organisations. The role supports programme implementation, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, fundraising and organisational learning.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for the implementation of PBI Kenya’s programmes, including the Civil Peace Service (CPS) programme.
• Coordinate capacity‑building initiatives for human rights defenders and grassroots groups.
• Manage the monitoring, evaluation and learning system across all programmes.
• Monitor political, human‑rights and social‑justice trends in Kenya to inform operations and advocacy.
• Design and support the implementation of PBI Kenya’s advocacy strategy.
• Maintain relationships with human‑rights organisations, government bodies, diplomatic actors and international partners.
• Develop advocacy materials, communications content and raise visibility of human‑rights issues.
• Identify funding opportunities, draft concept notes and proposals, and support donor reporting.
• Oversee protection guidance, security measures and risk assessments for at‑risk human‑rights defenders.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in programme development, advocacy or protection work within the human‑rights sector.
• Strong understanding of Kenya’s political and human‑rights context.
• Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships and coordinate multi‑stakeholder initiatives.
• Experience in fundraising, donor engagement and proposal writing.
