Regional Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Specialist – East Africa

About the role

Optasia is seeking a Regional Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Specialist to support its fintech platform across East Africa. You will act as the first line of defense, monitoring regulatory changes, managing compliance risks, and fostering an ethical culture within the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary contact with regulators to anticipate and mitigate the impact of new regulations, reporting obligations, and prudential guidelines.
• Lead horizon‑scanning activities, generate early‑warning signals on regulatory developments, and disseminate insights to relevant teams.
• Support the Head of Regulatory Affairs & Compliance and regional Compliance Managers in strategy execution and risk assessments.
• Continuously monitor company adherence to laws and guidelines, and conduct structured compliance assessments.
• Help implement a robust governance framework, including training, awareness programs, and internal communications.
• Develop marketing materials, training programs, and presentations that align with regulatory requirements.
• Perform general administrative duties related to regulatory reporting and documentation.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of fintech, micro‑finance, and regulatory environments in East Africa.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across functions.
• Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate regulatory trends.
