Release of Information Specialist – Full-time

About the role

The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I works within the VitalChart department to process medical record requests efficiently while protecting patient privacy. This full‑time position ensures every request complies with HIPAA, state statutes, and VRC policies.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, prioritize, and process Continuing Care and Disability Determination Service requests.
• Validate patient authorizations and verify HIPAA compliance before release.
• Retrieve and upload requested portions of medical charts from electronic or physical repositories.
• Perform quality‑control checks to prevent Protected Health Information breaches.
• Adjust invoicing as needed and document all actions in ROI software.
• Reject non‑compliant requests and promptly alert supervisors of unusual or problematic cases.
• Respond to requester inquiries professionally and maintain secure storage of records.
