Research Assistant Intern

About the role

The Research Assistant Intern will support the AgriNova Africa pilot in Kenya or Nigeria, gathering and synthesising country‑level evidence on young farmers, their digital behaviours and agricultural needs. This work will inform the design of a 12‑month pilot, focusing on existing digital agricultural services and ecosystem stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct desk and field research on agricultural, youth, extension and digital agriculture ecosystems.
• Profile target young farmer segments and collect evidence on their challenges and decision‑making processes.
• Map and document existing digital agricultural services, platforms, and ecosystem actors.
• Perform key informant interviews and primary data collection as directed.
• Compile, clean and organise research data, interview records and evidence trackers using digital tools.
• Synthesise findings into country briefs, evidence tables, gap analyses, ecosystem maps and presentations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or final‑year undergraduate qualification in Agriculture, Economics, Development Studies, Business, ICT, Social Sciences or related field.
• Interest or exposure to agriculture, digital agriculture, youth in agriculture or development programmes.
• Experience with research, data collection, surveys, interviews, desk research or ecosystem mapping is desirable.
• Strong analytical, synthesis and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Familiarity with Google Workspace or equivalent tools.
• Experience with digital data‑collection tools such as KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO or Google Forms.
