Restaurant Steward – Kitchen Hygiene Specialist

About the role

The Restaurant Steward ensures a clean, safe, and hygienic environment across all kitchen and dining areas. You will operate dishwashing equipment, manage waste, and support food preparation lines to maintain high sanitation standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate dishwashers and manual stations to clean, sanitize, and dry dishes, glassware, flatware, pots and pans.
• Maintain immaculate hygiene on work surfaces, prep tables, food storage areas and floors.
• Sort and store clean dishware and cookware for efficient retrieval by kitchen staff.
• Assist service lines by keeping them clean, stocked and free of food debris during service.
• Manage waste disposal, recycling and compost according to local guidelines.
• Perform deep‑cleaning of kitchen machinery, exhaust hoods, grease traps and walk‑in refrigerators on schedule.
• Support receiving teams with unloading, organizing and storing kitchen supplies.

Required profile

• High School Certificate or equivalent.
• Prior experience as a kitchen steward, dishwasher or cleaner in a restaurant, hotel or catering facility (preferred).
• Valid Food Handler's Health Certificate/Permit where required.
• Ability to lift up to 25 kg, stand for long periods and work in hot, humid environments.

Required skills

• Dishwashing machinery and sanitation equipment operation.
• Chemical handling and safety awareness.
• Knowledge of OSHA kitchen hygiene and sanitation standards.
