Safeguarding Officer – Education & Development

About the role

The Safeguarding Officer will lead the implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures for FAWE Kenya, ensuring a safe environment for children, women and vulnerable adults across all programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor safeguarding policies and standards.
• Prevent, respond to and manage safeguarding concerns and incidents.
• Oversee reporting and referral mechanisms, maintaining confidential records.
• Conduct safeguarding risk assessments and support investigations.
• Design and deliver training on safeguarding for staff, partners and volunteers.
• Promote safe practices and a culture of protection across all programmes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Development Studies or related field; Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued within the last six months.
• Minimum five years of experience in safeguarding, child protection or related roles, preferably in the education or development sector.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan child protection laws, national policies and international safeguarding standards.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and report‑writing skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience working with databases for record‑keeping and reporting.
