School Nurse

About the role

The School Nurse will be responsible for delivering day‑to‑day health care, first aid and emergency response for the founding community of Sankore International School in Nairobi. Reporting to the Business Manager, the nurse will ensure a safe, caring environment where students and staff receive professional medical support and health records are managed confidentially.

Key responsibilities

• Provide first aid, basic medical care and initial assessments for students and staff during school hours.
• Respond calmly to injuries, illnesses, accidents and medical emergencies, deciding on rest, class return or referral.
• Administer prescribed medication in line with school policy, parental consent and nursing standards.
• Support children with allergies, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy and other chronic health needs.
• Set up, maintain and manage a clean, child‑friendly school clinic, including supplies, medication storage and emergency equipment.
• Develop and follow protocols for injury response, illness management, infection prevention and referrals.
• Maintain accurate, confidential health records and coordinate with families, external providers and emergency services.
• Help build the school’s health systems, including clinic protocols, medication procedures, immunisation tracking and preventive health education.
