Senior Associate Back-End Engineer

About the role

Standard Chartered is looking for a technically strong Senior Associate Back‑End Engineer to design, develop and optimise high‑performance Java/Spring Boot micro‑service applications. The role can be based in Malaysia or China and will involve close collaboration with product, architecture and engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure and cloud‑ready backend platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and enforce backend design principles, coding standards, API standards and architectural patterns aligned with the company’s long‑term technology vision.
• Architect resilient, API‑first micro‑services using Java, Spring Boot, RESTful services, event‑driven messaging, caching and database optimisation.
• Lead adoption of modern engineering practices, drive technical decisions and troubleshoot complex production issues across application, integration, database and infrastructure layers.
• Mentor and groom development teams on Agile delivery, secure coding, observability and engineering excellence.
• Define a forward‑looking architectural vision prioritising modularity, scalability, resilience, performance and extensibility.
• Own project releases, drive cross‑team architecture decisions and champion SDLC and Agile processes.

Required profile

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to view problems from multiple angles and resolve issues quickly.
• Proven experience leading technical teams and providing domain expertise.
• Ability to break down complex requirements into smaller, actionable user stories.
• Experience guiding teams through the full software development lifecycle and supporting deployment and post‑release operations.
