Senior Communications Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks a Senior Communications Officer to lead the creation and dissemination of compelling content that supports its humanitarian mission across Kenya and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Develop public‑facing documents, multimedia content, and social media campaigns to raise awareness of IRC programs.
• Document field‑site visits, produce photography and videography, and manage graphic design assets.
• Coordinate events, workshops and donor communications, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
• Analyze digital metrics and analytics tools to assess impact and refine communication strategies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations or related field.
• 6‑8 years of professional experience in communications, preferably within development or humanitarian contexts.
• Fluent written and spoken English; knowledge of French or Arabic is a plus.
• Willingness to travel to field sites and work in emergency contexts.

Required skills

• Graphic design, social media photography and videography.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
• Experience with communication‑related AI packages and digital analytics tools.
• Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage heavy, fluctuating workloads.
