Senior Data Engineer (Azure)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join a large‑scale digital transformation programme. Based in Kenya and working remotely, you will design, develop and maintain scalable data solutions within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, turning diverse data sources into trusted, analytics‑ready datasets.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and optimise robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks and Synapse.
• Develop cloud‑based data solutions with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure SQL and related services.
• Implement data transformations and processing workflows in Python and SQL.
• Design and manage scalable data models and architectures, ensuring performance and data quality.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, data architects and technical teams to translate requirements into effective solutions.
• Apply version control (Git) and engineering best practices for maintainable code.
• Leverage AI‑powered tools where appropriate to automate and optimise data engineering tasks.
• Troubleshoot issues, monitor pipeline performance and continuously improve reliability.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience with Python and SQL in a data‑engineering context.
• At least 3 years working with Azure services (Azure Storage, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Azure networking).
• 3 years of experience with Azure Databricks and Delta Lake.
• Proven ability to design trusted, analytics‑ready datasets and data solutions.
• Strong experience with version‑control systems such as Git.
