Senior Learning & Development Specialist

About the role

The Senior Learning & Development Specialist will design, develop and implement learning solutions that support Church World Service’s mission in Africa. Reporting to the Learning and Development Manager, the role will administer the e‑Learning Management System, collaborate with the software development team and work closely with subject‑matter experts to deliver effective digital and classroom training.

Key responsibilities

• Provide input to strategic planning to align L&D initiatives with CWS Africa program goals.
• Champion CWS policies and ensure staff understand and follow them.
• Identify training and knowledge gaps in partnership with supervisors and develop appropriate interventions.
• Administer the e‑Learning Management System and leverage virtual collaboration and authoring tools to enhance learning experiences.
• Design and apply robust evaluation methods to measure learning impact.
• Manage L&D projects from planning through delivery, monitoring budget and timelines.
• Maintain the learning mailbox, training calendar and help‑desk, and ensure timely support to staff.
• Track progress against annual L&D objectives and report results.
• Facilitate in‑person and virtual training sessions, workshops and learning interventions.
• Participate in recruitment interviews and other HR functions as needed.

Required profile

• Several years of experience in learning and development, preferably in a non‑profit or international setting.
• Proven ability to design, deliver and evaluate training programs.
• Experience administering an e‑Learning Management System and working with software development teams.
• Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across regions.
