Senior Legal Counsel – Litigation

About the role

KCB Group is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to lead litigation matters across its portfolio. The role involves conducting legal research, preparing evidence and witnesses, and developing defence strategies in collaboration with external counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research, collate evidence, and prepare witnesses for pre‑trial and hearings.
• Develop concept papers, legal briefs, opinions and effective defence strategies.
• Represent the bank before courts or tribunals as a witness or brief.
• Manage and measure external lawyers’ performance to ensure efficiency.
• Create legal awareness and advise on actions to minimise litigation.
• Scrutinise legal fees and ensure compliance with remuneration orders and service level agreements.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date database of non‑debt recovery litigation and provide regular reports.
• Provide legal guidance to retail branches on bank policies, processes and procedures to mitigate legal and reputational risks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law and a Diploma in Law.
• At least 5 years of legal experience, including 4 years in legal drafting.
• 4 years of experience in corporate governance and risk management.
• 3 years of experience in legal communication and advocacy.
