Senior Manager – Institutional Project Management

About the role

The Senior Manager, Institutional Project Management leads AWF’s project governance, portfolio oversight and delivery assurance across multi‑country programmes and donor‑funded initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director, Mission Integration and Impact, the role embeds standardized methodologies and drives a culture of accountability and risk‑informed decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Manage AWF’s institutional project portfolio, tracking status, budget, schedule, risks and dependencies.
• Lead portfolio prioritisation and resource allocation aligned with strategic goals.
• Escalate critical risks, delays and governance issues to senior leadership and support Board‑level reporting.
• Ensure all projects follow AWF’s approved lifecycle methodology and governance framework.
• Design and maintain standard project management processes, including initiation, planning, stage‑gate reviews and close‑out.
• Conduct quality‑assurance reviews for high‑risk and strategic projects.
• Support project teams with charters, workplans, risk registers and change requests.
• Promote adaptive management and evidence‑based adjustments throughout project execution.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in institutional project and portfolio management.
• Strong track record of implementing governance structures and risk oversight in complex, multi‑country environments.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Ability to influence cross‑functional teams and drive continuous improvement.
