Senior Payroll Accountant

About the role

The Senior Payroll Accountant is responsible for the accurate, timely and fully compliant delivery of payroll across all of Tatu City’s Kenyan legal entities. This role handles complex pay elements such as commissions, bonuses, allowances, staff loans and expatriate payroll, while ensuring strict adherence to Kenyan statutory requirements. The position will also lead the payroll workstream for the upcoming 2027 Tier‑1 ERP migration.

Key responsibilities

• Run end‑to‑end monthly payroll for all entities on Sage 300 People, including data collection, gross‑to‑net calculations, payslip issuance and bank file preparation.
• Maintain separate, auditable payroll setups for each entity, managing KRA, NSSF, SHA registrations and cost‑centre allocations.
• Perform monthly variance analysis and enforce robust controls such as maker‑checker review and segregation of duties.
• Calculate, file and remit PAYE, SHIF, Affordable Housing Levy, NSSF and other statutory contributions within statutory deadlines.
• Administer sales commissions, bonuses, allowances and staff loans, ensuring correct tax treatment for each component.
• Manage expatriate payroll, including tax residency assessments, double‑taxation agreements and coordination with immigration permits.
• Post payroll journals, reconcile control accounts and produce monthly payroll and staff‑cost reports for finance and project accounting.
• Serve as Sage 300 People super‑user, update statutory tables, and lead data cleansing and testing for the 2027 ERP migration.
