Senior Principal Trainer I (Marine Engineering)

About the role

Bandari Maritime Academy is recruiting a Senior Principal Trainer I in Marine Engineering in Nairobi. The post reports to the Senior Deputy Director Maritime Education Training and is permanent and pensionable.

Key responsibilities

• Initiate, formulate and implement institutional policies and strategies
• Design, develop and deliver capacity-building programmes in management and related areas
• Coordinate development of instructional materials, curriculum and syllabus, and practical sessions, trade projects and business plans
• Participate in sector skills and development and report on training programmes, seminars, workshops and symposia
• Initiate and coordinate research and consultancy assignments and conduct capacity-building surveys
• Supervise and mentor trainers and design staff development programmes
• Evaluate and review training programmes and provide liaison between the academy and industry
• Coordinate implementation of training programmes and the setting, administration and marking of examinations

Required profile

• Cumulative service of 15 years of relevant work experience, including three years at the grade of Senior Principal Trainer II (MET) or in a comparable position
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in nautical science, mechanical, electrical or marine engineering
• STCW 78 certificate of competence (CoC) for Second Engineer (III/2) or Chief Mate (II/2); Kenya Maritime Authority approval is an added advantage
• Competence-based assessment from a recognised institution, pedagogical skills training certificate and membership of a relevant professional body
• A leadership course of at least four weeks is an added advantage
• Proficiency in computer applications and compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010

What we offer

• Basic salary of Ksh 165,700 to Ksh 315,000 per month
• House allowance of Ksh 35,000, commuter allowance of Ksh 20,000 and leave allowance of Ksh 10,000
