Senior Software Engineer - Backend (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer specialized in backend development to join a leading global IT services client on a contract basis. This fully remote position offers the chance to design, build, and maintain high‑performance systems that power mission‑critical services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimise backend software to meet performance and scalability goals.
• Lead code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and enforce best‑practice standards.
• Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and long‑term system design.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, Java or Go.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience building microservices and distributed systems.
