Senior Steel Structural Engineer

About the role

A leading Kenyan steel construction group is looking for a Senior Steel Structural Engineer to lead design, fabrication and erection of a wide range of steel‑frame projects, from commercial buildings to industrial structures.

Key responsibilities

• Lead structural design and engineering analysis of steel projects.
• Provide technical leadership during fabrication, assembly and erection of steel structures.
• Oversee workshop fabrication to ensure alignment with engineering specifications and drawings.
• Introduce modern steel construction methods and technologies to improve project delivery.
• Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with quality, safety and structural standards.
• Supervise site installation and erection, coordinating with clients, architects, contractors and consultants.
• Prepare material take‑offs and Bills of Quantities and optimise project costs.

Required profile

• Degree in civil/structural engineering with 4‑10 years of relevant experience.
• Strong technical judgement and ability to take ownership of complex structural challenges.
• Passion for steel structural engineering and desire to grow as a technical specialist.
• Willingness to focus on technical leadership rather than project management.
• Experience in commercial steel‑frame buildings, market structures, retail stalls, warehouses or industrial projects.
• Ability to prepare and review BOQs and material take‑offs.

Required skills
