Sheet Metal Worker (Civil Service Exam)

About the role

The City of Cleveland is seeking qualified candidates to take a civil service examination for the Sheet Metal Worker classification. Successful examinees will be placed on an eligible list for future openings in municipal construction and maintenance projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lay out, cut, form, rivet, solder, and sweat various sheet metals such as tin, galvanized iron, copper, and steel.
• Construct and install air ducts, fire‑proof doors, sheet‑metal hand‑lift pumps, guards, shields, gutters, downspouts, skylights, and tanks.
• Repair and maintain sheet‑metal components of heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning (HVAC) systems and boiler units.
• Install, repair, and modify sheet‑metal pipe, lining, molding, and other related structures.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of a certified four‑year Sheet Metal Apprentice Program or equivalent; one year of direct tinner experience may substitute per missing apprenticeship year.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license.
• Ability to lift at least 30 lb and work at heights using ladders.
