Software Engineer – Environmental Data Capacity (EDC) Toolkit

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a Software Engineer consultant to advance the digital development of the Environmental Data Capacity (EDC) Toolkit and the World Environment Situation Room (WESR) Knowledge Hub. The role is fully remote and will support the design, build, testing and deployment of core digital components for a three‑month period.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and integrate front‑end and back‑end components of the Assessment Tool and Capacity Pathways modules.
• Containerize the React UI WebApp and implement CKAN API integration for resource federation.
• Produce technical documentation and conduct knowledge‑transfer sessions for internal maintenance.
• Support testing, troubleshooting and iterative refinement based on pilot user feedback.
• Provide advisory and technical development support to WESR infrastructure as needed.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of experience in database development, software systems analysis, design and development.
• Proven experience delivering complex web‑application projects and workflow automation solutions.
• Experience working in multicultural or international organization settings is desirable.
