Solid Waste Management Center (SWMC) Operator

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Solid Waste Management Center (SWMC) Operator to support a critical U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves safely operating and maintaining equipment used for the collection, sorting, processing, and disposal of solid waste in accordance with government‑approved procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Operate solid waste management equipment following the Government‑accepted SWMC Operations & Maintenance Manual.
• Perform daily waste collection, sorting, processing, and disposal tasks.
• Conduct inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs to ensure equipment readiness and safety compliance.
• Maintain organized work areas and document equipment usage, maintenance activities, and waste handling records.
• Adhere to workplace safety, environmental regulations, and operational guidelines.
• Support waste reduction and recycling initiatives as outlined in the SWMC O&M manual.
• Report mechanical issues, equipment concerns, or safety hazards to supervisors.
• Collaborate with team members to achieve operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Fully qualified to operate solid waste management equipment per the SWMC O&M Manual.
• Knowledge of solid waste handling, sorting, and safety procedures.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum 1‑year validity) and ability to obtain required visas.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the deployment duration.
• Ability to obtain and retain facility credentials/authorization.
• Proficiency in reading, speaking, and understanding English.

Required skills

• Operation of solid waste management equipment.
