Swahili Language Linguist & Original Puzzle Designer

About the role

Digital Divide Data (DDD), a business process outsourcing company delivering machine learning data solutions, is recruiting a Swahili-language linguist and original puzzle designer for an exclusive content development project. The goal is to create highly complex reasoning puzzles in Swahili that are solvable by a smart, educated native speaker but resistant to standard automated solving or web searches.

Key responsibilities

• Write original reasoning prompts in Swahili, focusing on deep structural, cultural and logical nuances.
• Create puzzles in three categories: linguistic reasoning (grammar, syntax, linguistic ambiguity), cultural reasoning (traditions, locally grounded mathematics) and wordplay and riddles (original riddles and puns not found online).
• For each puzzle, deliver a native-language prompt, a gold answer, a rationale, an English translation of all three, and a difficulty rating.

Required profile

• Native-level fluency in Swahili with exceptional writing skills.
• High proficiency in English for clear translations and rationales.
• Background in Linguistics, Creative Writing, Translation or Logic/Mathematics.
• Creative and analytical thinker who designs problems requiring lateral thinking and multi-step reasoning.
• Awareness of how automated systems process language, so prompts are designed to resist them.

Disqualifiers include trivia or historical facts that can be Googled, translating existing English riddles or math problems, and copying puzzles from books, websites or online databases. Applications close on 30 October 2026.
