Tax Senior Associate

About the role

KPMG's Tax & Regulatory Services Unit in Nairobi is looking for a Senior Associate to oversee the delivery of tax compliance and advisory services to a variety of clients. The role leads the engagement team, manages resources and ensures deliverables meet the required standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage engagements: set up, resource planning, billing analysis, invoicing and collection
• Complete engagement and client KYC risk assessments per KPMG guidelines
• Guide tax return preparation, review returns prepared by others, prepare complex returns and review the team's work
• Build and manage client relationships and own client portfolio
• Act as contact point for regulators and authorities
• Run multiple projects involving client interviews, computations, analysis and data gathering
• Draft opinion letters, responses to Revenue Authority inquiries and rulings, and other technical memoranda
• Advise clients on tax planning, research, bankruptcy emergence planning, out-of-court workouts, debt restructurings, tax basis and earnings and profits
• Liaise with clients' finance and accounting departments and cross-functional teams such as Tax, IT and Audit
• Prepare tax BU training presentations and supervise, train and mentor associates and interns

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a business-related field from an accredited institution
• Minimum of 4-6 years of working experience
• Experience in an accounting or law firm or corporation is an added advantage
• ACCA, CPA or a postgraduate diploma/master's in taxation is highly desirable

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
• Good knowledge of tax laws, rules and regulations
• Working knowledge of accounting information systems and tax tools
• Excellent advisory, communication, negotiation and analytical skills
