Volunteer Pharmaceutical Technologist

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Volunteer Pharmaceutical Technologist to support pharmacy operations in Kenya. You will work under the supervision of the facility in charge, ensuring safe and efficient dispensing of medicines for vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee correct dispensing of pharmaceutical commodities at dispensing pharmacy units.
• Receive and report complaints, adverse drug reactions, and poor‑quality medicines.
• Maintain adequate stock levels, prevent pilferage, and enforce supply‑chain SOPs.
• Monitor prescribing trends, analyze prescriptions, and alert pharmacists to anomalies.
• Ensure cold‑chain maintenance and temperature monitoring for sensitive drugs.
• Prepare monthly inventory and MOH reports for Malaria, TB, and HIV.
• Track tracer drug availability and report bi‑weekly to the clinical team.
• Participate in departmental meetings, training, and mentorship programs.
• Carry out any additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Kenya Certificate of Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
• Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
• Enrollment with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
• At least one year of experience as a Pharmaceutical Technologist II.
• Strong communication and writing abilities.
