VP & Staff Software Engineer – Payments & Billing Platform

About the role

ShareShare is building Africa’s internet backbone and needs a senior individual contributor to own its core payments, billing and integration platform. You will work directly with the CTO and a small, high‑intensity engineering team to deliver production‑grade financial transaction systems for ISP partners.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the payments domain, including SasaPay collections, revenue‑split engine, treasury operations and payment‑to‑subscriber activation flow.
• Own the billing engine: subscription lifecycle, renewal cron jobs, grace‑period enforcement, mid‑cycle plan changes and event‑driven subscriber notifications.
• Develop and support the integration layer: Splynx adapter, custom webhook delivery engine and routing of domain events to external systems.
• Make architectural decisions on service boundaries, event contracts (Kafka), data model evolution (Prisma/PostgreSQL), API design and migration from a legacy Next.js monolith to a NestJS micro‑services platform.
• Write production code, review peers’ contributions and unblock technical blockers across the team.

Required profile

• Senior‑level software engineer with a strong architectural mindset.
• Proven experience delivering reliable, high‑throughput financial or billing systems.
• Comfortable working autonomously in a fast‑paced environment and collaborating closely with a CTO and a small engineering team.
• Willingness to take full ownership of critical domains without direct people‑management responsibilities.

Required skills

• NestJS (Node.js/TypeScript) and micro‑services architecture.
• Prisma ORM and PostgreSQL databases.
• Kafka for event‑driven communication.
• API design (REST/GraphQL) for public and private endpoints.
• Strong TypeScript/JavaScript development skills.
• Experience with payment integrations (C2B APIs, STK push, IPN handling).
