WASH Assistant – Garissa

About the role

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in delivering quality water, sanitation and hygiene programmes in Garissa and surrounding counties, focusing on emergency response and integration with health, nutrition and protection sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the WASH Officer in supervising construction or rehabilitation of WASH facilities such as animal troughs, tank platforms, elevated tower tanks, reticulation systems, borehole equipping and solarisation.
• Plan, organise and follow up hygiene promotion activities and distribution of WASH non‑food items (jerricans, buckets, soap, PUR, Aquatabs) to target communities.
• Support documentation of WASH activities, success stories and ensure quality checks of construction works using Save the Children checklists.
• Coordinate with contractors, community representatives and other Save the Children sectors to integrate WASH with nutrition, health, education and child protection.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Public Health or Sanitation.
• Minimum 2 years experience in WASH infrastructure construction in humanitarian or development settings.
• Experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation, and community participation.
• Fluent in English and Kiswahili or Somali.
