WASH Assistant – Mandera (Kenya)

About the role

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Officer in delivering quality water, sanitation and hygiene programmes across Mandera and surrounding counties. The role focuses on emergency response, construction of WASH infrastructure and integration of WASH with health, nutrition, education and child protection activities.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise construction, rehabilitation and solarisation of boreholes, water tanks, reticulation systems and related facilities.
• Coordinate and lead hygiene promotion activities and distribution of WASH non‑food items such as jerrycans, buckets, soap, PUR and Aquatabs.
• Monitor contractor performance, validate quality of work against Save the Children checklists and ensure timely payments.
• Document project progress, success stories and prepare daily and weekly reports for the WASH Officer.
• Integrate WASH construction with other sector interventions and ensure gender, child‑protection and disability considerations are embedded.
• Plan field logistics for monitoring visits and support community participation in project planning.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Public Health or Sanitation.
• Minimum two years of experience in WASH infrastructure construction within humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven experience in project management, community‑based participation and monitoring & evaluation.
• Fluent in English and Kiswahili; ability to communicate in Somali is an advantage.
• Kenyan national, willing to travel frequently to remote communities.
