About the role
The WASH & Construction Engineer (Officer) will lead the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure projects in Mandera and surrounding regions. The role focuses on emergency response to drought, integrating WASH activities with nutrition, health, education and child protection programmes.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct technical WASH needs assessments, feasibility studies and community consultations.
- Design, specify and oversee construction or rehabilitation of water supply systems, boreholes, pipe networks, reservoirs and sanitation facilities.
- Prepare tender documents, work specifications and manage procurement of materials.
- Supervise contractors and Save the Children staff on site, ensuring safety, quality and timely payments.
- Provide technical training to community volunteers, WASH committees and government staff.
- Lead hygiene promotion activities and distribution of WASH non‑food items.
- Manage logistics, budget tracking and reporting for small‑scale interventions.
Required profile
- Proven experience in WASH needs assessments and infrastructure projects, preferably in humanitarian or emergency contexts.
- Strong background in construction supervision, contractor management and quality control.
- Ability to develop technical specifications, tender documents and manage procurement processes.
- Experience delivering training to community groups and coordinating multi‑sectoral interventions.
- Good understanding of budgeting, logistics and site safety procedures.
