About the role
The Field Senior Wildlife Inspector serves as a frontline enforcement officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Office of Law Enforcement. Working at assigned ports of entry, the inspector protects wildlife resources by detecting, deterring, and investigating illegal wildlife trade.
Key responsibilities
- Lead interdiction and inspection activities at ports of entry to identify and counter wildlife trafficking.
- Conduct inspections and investigations of wildlife shipments and travelers, assess risk, and collaborate with partner agencies.
- Act as a technical expert and liaison for civil and criminal cases, share information with domestic and international partners, and prepare reports and presentations.
- Deliver training and outreach to inspectors, partners, and the public, providing mentorship to strengthen program capabilities.
- Perform inspections in varied and hazardous environments, prepare investigative findings, and coordinate with regional experts to enhance operations.
Required profile
- Frontline enforcement experience with a focus on wildlife protection.
- Ability to work in physically demanding settings, including lifting up to 50 lb and handling live animals.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work at multiple, sometimes remote, ports of entry.
- Strong adherence to safety procedures and ability to operate protective equipment.
