Yard Supervisor (Breakbulk & Project Cargo)

About the role

AGL (Africa Global Logistics), a multimodal port, logistics, maritime and rail operator now part of the MSC Group, is hiring a Yard Supervisor in Mombasa, Kenya. The post covers the day-to-day supervision of the project yard, ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant receipt, storage, handling and dispatch of project cargo such as breakbulk, containers, out-of-gauge, heavy lift and hazardous cargo. The contract is fixed term and full time.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily receipt, storage, handling and dispatch of cargo and allocate work and manpower
• Monitor cargo movement and ensure timely loading and offloading, with optimal yard layout and traffic flow
• Coordinate lifting operations with cranes, forklifts and reach stackers, and ensure compliance with approved procedures and lifting plans
• Enforce HSSE policies, OSHA requirements and customer safety standards, run toolbox talks, enforce PPE and Permit-to-Work procedures, and report incidents and near misses
• Supervise yard personnel, monitor productivity per shift, manage shift handovers and support performance management
• Verify cargo against shipping documents, track inventory and maintain yard inventory records and location maps
• Update Yard Management Systems (YMS) and prepare daily, productivity and shift handover reports
• Coordinate with transporters, project teams, warehouse operations and customers, and liaise with maintenance teams
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and drive continuous improvement

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a related field
• Minimum 4-6 years' experience in yard operations, terminal operations, heavy logistics or project cargo handling
• Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory role
• Experience with breakbulk, OOG, heavy lift or oil & gas cargo is an added advantage

Required skills

• Working knowledge of lifting operations, cargo securing techniques and yard safety practices
• Familiarity with Yard Management Systems (YMS), warehouse systems or cargo tracking platforms is desirable
