Airfield Manager

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Airfield Manager to oversee daily operations of the Diego Garcia airfield, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and 24/7 readiness for US Navy missions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of airfield operations, maintaining compliance with Federal, Host Nation, and British Indian Ocean Territory regulations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for safe and functional airfield activities, including decisions to open or close the airfield.
• Advise the Government Air Operations Officer on operational status and provide recommendations based on personnel, equipment, and facility capabilities.
• Enforce DoD, FAA, NATOPS, UFC, ICAO, and other relevant standards.
• Lead construction, repairs, and security‑focused projects on the airfield.
• Supervise Airfield Management Division staff and coordinate with multi‑function base operations.
• Prepare and submit documentation for personnel changes to contracting officials.
• Train airfield personnel on safety, regulatory compliance, and best practices.
• Conduct regular audits, reassessments, and inspections to maintain safety and compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering, or a related field from a recognized U.S. or U.K. institution.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in overall airfield management, preferably with experience comparable to Diego Garcia operations.
• In‑depth knowledge of DoD, FAA, NATOPS, UFC, ICAO regulations and related airfield standards.
• Familiarity with airfield security regulations and safety requirements.
