Assistant Editor, Focus on Africa

About the role

The Assistant Editor will support the flagship ‘Focus on Africa’ programme, delivering news and current affairs across TV, radio and digital platforms for African audiences and global listeners. Based in Nairobi, the role combines editorial leadership with innovative storytelling to expand reach among younger and underserved audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Lead editorial team for live television and radio production focusing on Pan‑African news.
• Commission, shape and deliver multimedia journalism across TV, radio, podcasts and digital channels.
• Develop and implement new programme structures and content formats.
• Analyse audience data, SEO and platform performance to inform editorial decisions.
• Use data‑driven storytelling techniques, including data journalism.
• Oversee script editing in English and ensure high‑quality, engaging copy.
• Manage large multi‑platform teams while championing diversity and inclusion.
• Handle complex legal and editorial policy issues, complaints and compliance.

Required profile

• Proven editorial leadership in live television and radio production.
• Significant experience producing audiovisual podcasts and high‑impact digital journalism.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large, diverse teams across platforms.
• Track record of addressing legal and editorial policy matters.
• Strong understanding of the Pan‑African news landscape.
