Assistant Operator – Responsible Charge (AORC)

About the role

The Assistant Operator in Responsible Charge (AORC) supports the operation of a water‑treatment plant on Diego Garcia, providing safe drinking water for a US Navy program. The role involves assisting with daily plant operations, maintenance, quality testing, and emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in operating the water‑treatment plant to meet state and federal water quality standards.
• Monitor and control equipment processes, making adjustments as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on plant machinery.
• Collect and analyze water samples for pH, chlorine, turbidity and other parameters.
• Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance activities, and test results.
• Respond to emergencies such as power outages or equipment failures.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.

Required profile

• Current certification as a Level II Treatment and Level II Distribution operator.
• Valid operator’s certification maintained through required professional development.
• Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain facility credentials.
• Preferred: experience in austere OCONUS environments and a multi‑national workforce.
