Automotive & Plant Mechanic

About the role

The Automotive & Plant Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles and plant machinery used within a factory environment. The role ensures equipment runs efficiently and safely, minimizing production downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, electrical and engine faults on vehicles and plant machines.
• Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing on company vehicles and factory equipment.
• Repair and maintain trucks, forklifts, loaders, generators, compressors and other industrial assets.
• Inspect, replace and service worn‑out parts such as brakes, bearings, filters, belts, hoses and suspension components.
• Conduct engine overhauls, transmission repairs and hydraulic system maintenance.
• Carry out welding and fabrication work when required.
• Maintain workshop tools and equipment in good condition.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns to limit production loss.
• Keep accurate maintenance and repair records.
• Ensure compliance with safety and maintenance procedures.

Required profile

• High School (KCSE or equivalent) completed.
• Certificate or Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience repairing vehicles and industrial/plant machinery.
• Experience in a manufacturing or factory setting is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems and automotive diagnostics.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
