Country Director (Kenyan Nationals Only)

About the role

Johanniter International Assistance is looking for a senior leader to head its Kenya country office and oversee programme implementation in Ethiopia and Somalia. The Country Director will develop and execute the country strategy, ensure legal and regulatory compliance, and lead fundraising and partnership activities across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, adapt and implement the country strategy in line with regional and global objectives.
• Lead networking, positioning and partnership building with donors, government bodies and local stakeholders.
• Oversee all funding acquisition, management and reporting in collaboration with the senior management team.
• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the Kenya office and supervise programme delivery in Ethiopia and Somalia, either directly or through implementing partners.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and organisational policies in all three countries.
• Foster collaboration between country, regional and global teams to achieve strategic goals.
• Represent Johanniter International Assistance in high‑level meetings and public forums.

Required profile

• Kenyan national with extensive senior leadership experience in humanitarian or development organisations.
• Proven track record in fundraising, donor management and financial oversight.
• Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑country operations and manage diverse teams.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to Ethiopia and Somalia, security permitting.
