Data Engineer – Analytics

About the role

Kitsilano Technologies is a leading technology consulting firm based in Kenya, helping organisations accelerate digital transformation through cloud, data and modern IT solutions. The Data Engineer will design and build the ingestion, transformation and modelling layers that power client reporting, handling messy source data and delivering actionable insights directly to stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build ingestion, transformation, and modelling layers for client reporting.
• Own data models end‑to‑end, including grain, keys, relationships, history and testing, with documented reasoning.
• Profile, clean and reconcile source data before it reaches the reporting layer.
• Build the analytics layer that answers client questions and interpret business impact.
• Present designs, findings and recommendations directly to client stakeholders, including non‑technical audiences.
• Contribute to scoping at the pre‑sales stage.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience building and maintaining production data pipelines that other teams rely on.
• Current cloud certification within the data, analytics or machine‑learning track.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Self‑starter, motivated and customer‑focused.
• Ability to explain and defend AI‑generated outputs.

Required skills

• Snowflake experience, preferably SnowPro Core certification.
• Advanced SQL (window functions, CTEs, set logic, aggregation at the correct grain).
• Relational database modelling (normalisation, slowly changing dimensions, denormalisation judgement).
• dbt in a production setting (incremental models, snapshots, tests).
• Python for data analysis, automation and data acquisition from databases, APIs and files.
