About the role
The World Bank’s Urban, Resilience and Land Global Practice is seeking an ET Consultant to support decision‑grade geospatial analytics for urban development in Eastern and Southern Africa. This 1‑year fixed‑term position will be based in Nairobi and will work closely with government partners and World Bank teams to translate advanced geospatial data into actionable investment and resilience plans.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and apply geospatial tools that move beyond descriptive mapping to inform operational choices, investment prioritisation and resilience planning.
- Analyse Earth Observation data and spatial analytics to identify growth patterns, land‑use changes and infrastructure gaps.
- Collaborate with urban planners, engineers and climate specialists to integrate geospatial insights into project designs and policy recommendations.
- Produce technical reports, visualisations and decision‑support dashboards for senior stakeholders.
- Provide capacity‑building support to government counterparts on the use of geospatial technologies.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in Geography, Urban Planning, Geomatics, Environmental Science or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience applying geospatial analytics to urban or climate‑resilience projects.
- Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate complex data into clear, policy‑relevant recommendations.
- Fluent English (both written and spoken).
