Fire Alarm Dispatcher – Emergency Response

About the role

The Fire Alarm Dispatcher supports a critical US Navy program on Diego Garcia by monitoring fire alarm systems, receiving emergency calls, and dispatching the appropriate fire response personnel. This position requires calm, clear communication and the ability to manage multiple tasks in high‑pressure situations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor fire alarm systems and respond promptly to alarm signals following established protocols.
• Receive, prioritize, and categorize emergency calls, then dispatch fire department personnel.
• Operate radios, telephones, and computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) systems to coordinate response activities.
• Maintain real‑time communication with responding units, providing updates on incident status.
• Document all calls, dispatched units, and actions in logs for record‑keeping and reporting.
• Verify alarm system functionality, identify faults, and report issues for immediate resolution.
• Assist in tracking alarm maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with the Fire and Emergency Services team to ensure seamless coordination during emergencies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Telecommunicator I & II and Hazmat Awareness certifications (to be obtained within 12 months if not already held).
• 1‑3 years of experience in emergency dispatch, fire service communications, or a related field.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and make accurate dispatch decisions.
• Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain required facility credentials.
