Head of Finance

About the role

PowWater is scaling its water delivery infrastructure across Kenya and seeks a hands‑on finance leader to own the company’s financial strategy and build a robust finance function. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will shape budgeting, reporting and controls while leading a growing finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the full financial strategy, including budgeting, rolling cash‑flow forecasts and board reporting.
• Manage month‑end close, preparation of management accounts and presentation of financial results to the board.
• Lead cost analysis, unit‑economics modelling and pricing decisions to support expansion.
• Own the QuickBooks multi‑entity environment, chart of accounts, internal controls and reporting design.
• Ensure statutory compliance, coordinate external audits and act as primary liaison with the Kenya Revenue Authority on tax matters.
• Oversee treasury functions, optimise working capital, and manage accounts receivable and payable.
• Develop financing strategies, maintain bank relationships and calculate cost of capital.
• Recruit, mentor and develop the finance team.

Required profile

• CPA (Kenya) or ACCA qualification.
• At least 12 years of finance experience, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven track record building finance processes and teams from the ground up.
• Experience in logistics, distribution or e‑commerce finance is a strong advantage.

Required skills

• Advanced QuickBooks implementation and multi‑entity reporting.
• Financial modelling, budgeting and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Statutory compliance and tax liaison with KRA.
• Treasury management and working‑capital optimisation.
