Head of SME Business

About the role

The Head of SME Business will lead the strategy and growth of the SME segment, overseeing lending, deposits, and client relationships. Reporting to senior management, this role drives revenue, manages risk, and builds a high‑performing sales team in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the SME business strategy aligned with corporate goals.
• Acquire new SME clients and expand existing relationships to grow the loan book.
• Identify market opportunities, products, and partnerships to increase SME penetration.
• Oversee SME lending operations, enforce credit policies, and monitor portfolio performance (PAR, NPLs, provisioning).
• Lead initiatives to mobilize SME deposits and design tailored deposit products.
• Manage, mentor, and set performance targets for the SME sales and relationship team.
• Maintain strong client relationships, ensure high satisfaction and retention, and handle escalations.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal risk standards.
• Monitor financial performance, budgets, and cost efficiency of the SME segment.

Required profile

• Degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field; MBA preferred.
• 7–10 years experience in SME banking, micro‑finance or business development.
• Proven track record in leading sales or relationship management teams.
• Strong understanding of SME lending, credit analysis and risk management.
• Strategic thinking and solid business acumen.
