Health & Safety Specialist – Risk & Controls (Fixed-Term)

About the role

One Acre Fund is seeking a dedicated Health & Safety Specialist to lead internal controls design and manage health and safety across its Tupande factories in Kenya. This fixed‑term position will focus on food safety, workplace safety, and supply‑chain quality to ensure compliance with international standards and local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain food safety systems such as HACCP, FSSC 22000, and GlobalG.A.P., and define KPI metrics to monitor performance.
• Conduct regular factory inspections, including swab, chemical, and moisture testing, and perform surprise audits of cleaning, allergen controls, and germ prevention.
• Test recall procedures to verify product traceability from farm to bag within four hours.
• Investigate food safety incidents, determine root causes, and support corrective actions.
• Assess machinery hazards, verify safety guards and emergency shut‑offs, and enforce safe stacking heights and fall‑protection measures.
• Provide safety briefings, PPE checks, and liability waivers for visitors and contractors.
• Audit plant safety, deliver training, and collaborate with teams to remediate identified issues.
• Implement early‑stage quality checks for crops (moisture, maturity, dirt) at collection centers.
• Calibrate field scales, reconcile inventory between field and factory, and inspect transport containers for cleanliness and pest‑free status.
• Design and operate financial control systems to protect assets and prevent losses.

Required profile

• 3‑5+ years of experience in risk, controls, or health & safety roles, preferably in food processing or agricultural environments.
• Strong knowledge of international food safety standards and occupational safety regulations.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and audit control systems.
• Excellent investigative and problem‑solving skills.
