Heavy Civil Project Manager

About the role

Independence Excavating is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Project Manager to lead large commercial construction projects. You will be responsible for overseeing all phases of the project, from budgeting and scheduling to owner interaction and final delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and return submittals for manufactured or supplied items.
• Collaborate with the Superintendent/Operations Manager to determine equipment and crew requirements.
• Assemble and regularly update job cost codes.
• Coordinate subcontractors and material deliveries for major items.
• Review and approve subcontractor/supplier estimates and invoices.
• Negotiate, close, and coordinate Extra Work Orders and Change Order Requests.
• Monitor production, resource utilization, and job cost versus estimates to maintain profit margins.
• Prepare monthly job cost and profit projections.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing large commercial construction projects.
• Strong organizational abilities to handle diverse tasks.
• Proven ability to build positive relationships with owners, engineers, and local government offices.
• Demonstrated competence in managing people, budgets, schedules, and quality across multiple sites.
• Capability to perform accurate project take‑offs and estimates.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
