Inpatient Doctors Team Leader

About the role

The Inpatient Doctors Team Leader provides clinical and operational leadership for the hospital’s inpatient services in Thika. The role oversees a team of Medical Officers, ensures safe, high-quality patient care, and drives efficient patient flow and bed utilisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, supervise and appraise permanent and locum Medical Officers, managing rosters and on-call schedules.
• Oversee day-to-day inpatient care, monitor length of stay, delayed discharges and unplanned ICU transfers, and manage DAMA cases.
• Conduct daily multidisciplinary ward rounds, coordinate specialist reviews and ensure timely communication with patients and families.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance, incident reporting, mortality and morbidity documentation, and maintain up-to-date protocols.
• Monitor performance against clinical, operational, financial and patient-experience indicators and produce regular reports for senior management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science and a valid Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) licence.
• At least 3 years post-internship experience with demonstrated clinical leadership and supervision of teams.
• Current BLS and ACLS/ATLS certifications.
• Post-graduate qualification in healthcare management, leadership or a related field.
• Strong communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
