About the role
The MEAL Officer will lead the implementation of the project’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) framework, ensuring data quality, timely reporting and compliance with donor requirements. Working closely with the Strategic Advocacy, Research and Communications manager, the role supports field teams, case‑management staff and external evaluators.
Key responsibilities
- Implement the project MEAL plan, maintain indicator tracking tables and roll‑out MEAL tools and digital systems.
- Collect, verify and enter monitoring data, conduct data quality checks and manage datasets in line with data protection procedures.
- Administer and test electronic data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO) and train field staff on their use.
- Conduct regular monitoring visits, track outputs against work plans and support post‑distribution monitoring.
- Compile data for donor and internal reports, draft narrative sections and ensure figures are verifiable.
- Support baseline, mid‑term and end‑line evaluations, assist external evaluators and conduct basic quantitative/qualitative analysis.
- Operate feedback and complaints mechanisms, ensuring safe referral and follow‑up.
- Document lessons learned, produce case studies and promote a culture of evidence‑based decision‑making.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Statistics, Data Science, Development Studies or related field.
- 4–7 years of experience in MEAL, data collection or programme support for donor‑funded projects.
- Strong understanding of indicators, logframes and results frameworks.
- Excellent attention to detail, data‑quality focus and basic report‑writing skills.
- Knowledge of data protection, confidentiality and ethical data management.
Required skills
- Digital data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK or SurveyCTO.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry, formulas, pivot tables).
- Basic data visualisation using Excel or similar tools.
- Experience with case‑management or CRM databases (advantageous).
- Understanding of data protection, access controls and information security.
