About the role
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a qualified Medical Officer to lead clinical services at its hospital in Kenya. The role involves delivering high‑quality patient care, overseeing ward operations, and coordinating emergency and elective procedures across multiple specialties.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the hospital, ensuring daily patient attendance and effective ward functioning.
- Attend to all medical and surgical emergencies, including obstetric and gynecological cases.
- Supervise and manage clinical staff across wards, labs, pharmacy, and health posts.
- Conduct daily ward rounds in maternity, medical, pediatrics, and isolation units.
- Perform elective and emergency surgeries and obstetric procedures in theatre.
- Run weekly specialty clinics (SOPC, GOPC, HRC, MOPC, POPC).
- Handle medical‑legal cases, complete P3 forms, and attend court sessions as needed.
- Provide prompt care for survivors of sexual assault at the GBV centre.
- Coordinate referrals to secondary and tertiary care facilities.
- Act as team leader, attend clinical staff meetings, and provide program updates.
- Manage the Clinical Services Program in the Health Manager’s absence.
- Organise and participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) for staff.
