Post-Doctoral Fellow – Nematology Soil Health

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a Post‑Doctoral Fellow to advance research on nematode management and soil health. The Fellow will generate high‑quality scientific outputs, contribute to ongoing projects within the Nematology Unit, and develop independent research aligned with programme objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Design and plan laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments focused on nematode and soil health.
• Develop and refine methodologies for nematode assessment and soil health indicators.
• Implement field and laboratory studies while ensuring adherence to scientific protocols and data quality standards.
• Conduct statistical analyses, interpret results, and prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals.
• Produce technical reports, datasets, and other scientific deliverables.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners and provide mentorship to postgraduate students and junior researchers.
• Present research findings at scientific meetings, workshops, and conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in Nematology, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in nematode management, soil health research, or related fields.
• Ability to work independently and contribute original scientific ideas.
• Strong scientific writing and communication skills.
